Silver Albert chain with fob 1893 Birmingham

£249.00

This is a great single silver watch chain complete with a sterling silver decorative fob, terminating in a spring clip for attaching a pocket watch, fob or other accessory. The chain is of graduating curb link construction with each link hallmarked with the passant lion for sterling. This chain is in excellent condition for a piece of jewellery now 124 years old, although there is or course evidence of wear on the hallmarks. The makers mark for the chain is rubbed so we can't be certain who manufactured it. The spring clip is most likely a later replacement as it dates to 1927, made by Herbert Bushell & Son of Birmingham. The fob was manufactured in 1893, but the makers mark is again rubbed so the manufacturer is uncertain. It has a blank gold-plated cartouche on the front that could be engraved. This is a very smart addition to any waistcoat.
